Providers of parent education programs have an obligation to provide quality courses led by competent and enthusiastic facilitators who will meet parent’s expectations while enhancing the facility’s pubic relations and community standing. Enabling educators to gain the basic skills for the planning and development of effective, stimulating and enjoyable birth and parenting programs in a variety of settings and for different client groups is therefore vitally important. Childbirth educators spend more time with expectant parents than other members of the maternity care team. They are a vital link in ensuring informed consent is understood by clients and in managing risk by the institution/hospital. Their input is important for promoting health and developing appropriate maternity care services.
